I Vote: Great Deal . . . . .

All-You-Can-Eat Restaurants: Great Deal, Or Bad Policy?

"In the United States, all-you-can-eat restaurant franchises are hardly a novel concept, but in the UK, they're more of a new arrival. In a piece about the new British buffet chain Taybarns, BBC News asks whether all-you-can-eat buffets encourage excessive eating.

Sure, you might fill up a plate with more than you need, when you've already paid for it. But do these sorts of restaurants actually constitute more of a health problem than any other? I'm inclined to say that enough dirt-cheap dining options exist in our world today—McDonalds and 7-11, I'm looking at you—that all-you-can-eat restaurants, though perhaps encouraging momentary indulgence, won't have a large-scale impact on health. And portions are so gigantic these days that one might not eat any more at a buffet than they would at any other restaurant meal.

What do you think? Are all-you-can-eat restaurants a bad policy? Or just a decent way to get a cheap, filling meal?"

A Beer Bath – Spa Treatments For Men

"Fancy taking a bath in pool filled with 42,000 pints of lager? It doesn’t sound too appealing but apparently it’s good for you.

Well so say Austrian brewers Starkenberg, who have opened up several of these 135 Euro an hour hot tubs claiming the warm beer baths can help blood circulation and treat skin conditions.

On the upside a couple of lovelies employed at the spa will serve you a few cold one’s whilst you sit back and take it easy.

There was no mention on the official website that for a few extra bucks they’d join you in the tub and help you ‘relax’."

The Biggest Steak Dinner I Have Discovered (So Far) . . . . .

This is not even a steak dinner challenge. I stumbled upon this "no words can describe" steak dinner.

Here's some of the highlights.

- It can possibly feed you and up to 9 friends (or in my case, me and possibly no more than 6 friends, tops).

- It's price tag is over $1,000. That's just for the meal itself, not including drinks, tax or tip.

Without further agony, its the 414 ounce (that's right, four hundred and fourteen!) steak dinner at the Benjamin Steakhouse (website) located at the Dylan Hotel in New York City.

The "[dinner} platter [consists] of 4 Porterhouses, a Chateau Briand, 2 Filets, a Ribeye and a Sirloin. Along with every side on the menu."

C.E.B.'s Top 5 Steak Dinner Challenges (#1) . . . . .

"6lb Challenge" at the Frontier Steakhouse Cattle Company in Tampa, FL.

What makes it so great:
- 6 pounds = 96 ounces. That's more than 2 orders of the 40 ounce Porterhouse challenges at the at Porterhouse Bistro in Beverly Hills, CA in 1 sitting!

- It's not just meat alone. This challenge will definitely test your eating capabilities. "The rules require patrons to sit down and eat 6 full pounds of steak along with a baked potato and a salad within an hour and fifteen minutes."

- The insanity of the challenge.

C.E.B.'s Top 5 Steak Dinner Challenges (#2) . . . . .

"84 ounce Steak Challenge" at Scrub Ridge Inn in McConnellsburg, PA.

What makes it so great:
- The following says it all. "On the peak of a winding rural highway in rural Pennsylvania, not far from the truckers' town of Breezewood, there lies a roadside cafe named the Shrub Ridge Inn. Unremarkable from the outside, we chanced upon this modest eatery in a moment of need (desperate for lunch, it was the only place we could find open at 3pm on a Sunday). And how fortunate we were to discover this unique establishment. For it is the home of the 84oz steak challenge."

C.E.B.'s Top 5 Steak Dinner Challenges (#3) . . . . .

"80 ounce Challenge" at the Cattle Rustler's Steakhouse in Ardmore, OK.

What makes it great:
- It's only you and the steak. No sides to fill you up and potentially hurt you in completing the challenge.

- That's 5 pounds of meat in 1 sitting!

- It's only 80% of the largest steak eating challenge that I found.

C.E.B.'s Top 5 Steak Dinner Challenges (#4) . . . . .

"76 Ounce Free Steak Challenge" at J and R's Steakhouse in New York.

What makes it so great:
- It's just you and 76 ounces of steak. No additional sides to get in your way.

- They have 5 locations throughout the state of New York to try it at.

C.E.B.'s Top 5 Steak Dinner Challenges (#5) . . . . .

#5 - "The Great Steak Challenge" at Steak & Main in North East, MD.

What makes it so great:
- $100 cash prize for completing the challenge

- 5 different cuts of meat are served so you don't get bored while eating (26oz. Delmonico, an 8 oz Filet Mignon, a 12oz. New York strip, a 12 oz veal chop and a 16oz. flat iron = 74 ounces or a little over 4 pounds of meat).

- Hell if you don't finish, how many people can say they decided to spend $140 (cost of meal if you fail to complete the challenge) on a 74 ounce steak dinner for themselves?

Awesome Steak Dinner Challenges In The U.S. . . . . .

After watching last night's Man V. Food episode that feature a steak eating challenge at a local restaurant, it got me thinking, how many of these steak eating challenges are out there throughout the country? Well thanks to online search engines, it doesn't take me long to find out.

One of the more famous challenges in the country is the "FREE 72oz STEAK" challenge at the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.

Another famous steak dinner challenge that I wish I could participate in, is one that is not even available to the general public. It is the Lawry's Beef Bowl held annually at Lawry's in Beverly Hills, CA. It is an "annual tradition of hosting both Rose Bowl-bound teams for a prime rib dinner." The current team that holds the record for the most prime rib eating is the 2007 Fightin' Illini from the University of Illinois (unverified info). The most prime consumed by any 1 person is Ed Muransky (Wikipedia) who "set the all-time "Beef Bowl" record by consuming 16 pounds of prime rib at Lawry's before the 1979 Rose Bowl."

Man V. Food Steak Dinner Challenge In Maryland . . . . .

Last night, the Man V. Food episode showed the host Adam, attempting to defeat "The Great Steak Challenge" at the Steak & Main restaurant located in North East, Maryland. Unfortunately he was unable to conquer the challenge. It must have been one of his off days, and the blonde hottie in the crowd was unable to further inspire him to finish off the challenge.

Blu-Ray DVD Player Finally Affordable . . . . .

But the Blu-Ray dvd's continue to be outrageously priced.

"Best Buy has gone ahead and dropped the price to just $99, no coupon needed.

The BRDVD3 isn't the first Blu-ray deck to crack the $100 barrier. As Rick Broida at CNET.com points out, Sears has been selling a refurbished Magnavox BD player for $99, and until recently, Newegg had the same player for just $79 (it's now out of stock, though).

Indeed, look for Blu-ray player prices to plunge as we approach the holiday season, with the NPD Group (via Video Business) predicting that the cheapest BD decks could sell for as little as $49 come Black Friday. Of course, I wouldn't count on any Sony or Samsung players for $49, but you can be sure that rock-bottom prices on the low end of the spectrum will drag down prices for name-brand players."

Bold Storyline Heading Of The Day #2 (10/29/09) . . . . .

Toyota won’t make any profit from the Lexus LFA

"There won’t be any profit to be made from the Lexus LFA due to the high cost incurred from developing and constructing it.

However, insiders say that the company’s aim was to create a halo car for the brand. And Toyota did just that after spending six years in development."

Yah, sure. That's like Ferrari saying they built the Reventon as a one off project for bragging rights for those who own it, and to make a statement to their fellow competitors that they are a bad ass car manufacturer that needs to be reckoned with.

Congrats To Kurt Rambis In His NBA Coaching Debut . . . . .

The Minnesota Timberwolves started their 2009 - 2010 season with a bang with a win over the New Jersey Nets on a last second, buzzer beating shot by Damien Wilkins, giving their rookie head coach Kurt Rambis, a win in his debut.

He has a long, yet fun season ahead of him still. First up in a few days, he gets to coach against one of his former foes in his playing days, Doc Rivers and the Celtics on Wednesday November 4th.

In December, on 2 separate occasions in less than a week, he gets to coach against his former Laker teammate and current coach of the New Orleans Hornets, Byron Scott. Those games are on December 4th and December 9th. And because in the NBA you get to play every single team in the league at least once, he gets to face his former employer, the defending NBA champion Lakers 2 days later on December 11th.

This NBA season can definitely be described as the current NBA motto states, "Where Amazing Happens." And this is just one of the many underlying storylines from the 2009 - 2010 season!
