Wine DJ pairs sounds with flavors

"To help promote the Liberty School label, the winery announced that they will be releasing Wine DJ, an iPhone application that helps you build a playlist of “music to match your spirits” based on mood, setting and Liberty School wine being consumed.

Users choose a Liberty School wine and move sliders to adjust variables that correspond with their situation. They can select a setting, such as “Candle Light/Strobe Light” and “Flying Solo/Entourage,” and the app will stream a custom-made playlist. With music sourced from GrooveShark.com, the potential for unique playlists are immense. The app comes bundled with extensive information on Liberty School including tasting notes (both “what the people say” and “what the experts say”) and a map feature that shows the nearest retailers who carry the wine. The free app will be hitting Apple’s App Store and Apple’s iTunes soon.

“The Wine DJ app offers something original, fun and valuable to our customers,” says Hope. “Who hasn’t wondered what wine to open on a date, or what music to play at a dinner party? The Wine DJ app facilitates any music and wine scenario, and will hopefully attract new wine drinkers to discover the Hope Family brands in the process,” he adds."

Two lucky golfers begin tour of extreme golf courses

'What does it feel like to play golf in 122-degree heat? What happens to your game when you're 10,800 feet above sea level? Lindsay Knowlton and Josh Sullivan are about to find out.

Both work for TaylorMade-adidas and were chosen to test their games in the most extreme conditions around the world.

Starting today with a kickoff at the company's headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., Knowlton and Sullivan, who both have single-digit handicaps, will travel to five courses in the Southern Hemisphere, learn about local cultures and participate in several thrill-seeking adventures.

Here's a list of the extreme courses Knowlton and Sullivan will be playing:

Furnace Creek, Calif.: The world's lowest elevation golf course at 214 ft. below sea level.

LaPaz Golf Club, Bolivia: The world's highest elevation course at 10,800 ft. above sea level.

Ushuaia, Argentina: The world's southern-most 18-hole golf course.

Walker Bay Golf Resort, South Africa: Africa's southern-most golf course.

Alice Springs, Australia: The world's hottest golf course. Temperatures can exceed 122 degrees.

R.I.P. - Nickent Golf . . . . .

Adjustable driver market kills company

"Nickent Golf, which just a few years ago gained acclaim for its popular hybrid clubs, is preparing to liquidate its business. Struggling with cash-flow issues since the first quarter of this year, Nickent's mercurial run in the equipment market has come to an end. The equipment maker's fortunes turned in early 2008 when it made an ill-fated gamble on the nascent adjustable-driver market. Hoping to make inroads into the driver category, Nickent pushed aggressively to be among the first to unveil a conforming driver that could easily swap shafts for immediate play. At the 2008 PGA Merchandise Show, the company unveiled its adjustable driver package -- a clubhead, two shafts and a wrench -- for $479. But neither its driver, nor the product category as a whole, captured much consumer interest."

This really sucks too. I use their hybrids and find them very easy clubs to hit (not to mention very reasonably priced).

Kim Kardashian is Carl’s Jr.’s next buxom beauty

"Reality show celeb Kim Kardashian joins the lineup of buxom beauties to flaunt their sex appeal for a Carl’s Jr. ad.

The chain confirmed Thursday that Kardashian will be featured in a seductive salad ad that will premiere next month on TV.

Yes, that’s right — Carl’s Jr. is trying to make salads sultry.

Once again, the Southern California-based burger chain is using Hollywood’s latest gossip girl to help lift sales."

Earlier this morning I posted about the new super car rumored to be being built by Ferrari to be released in 2010 here. And now I come across Lamborghini, not one to be upstaged by their Italian counterpart, also is rumored to have an ace up their sleeve for 2010.

Lamborghini Urus - new supercar placed above the future Jota

"Lamborghini will also bring a new supercar placed under it and most likely to be called Urus. It will be built on a modified version of the future Jota and will feature a full carbon fiber body. It will use a modified version of the V12 engine from the Jota that will now deliver up to 800 hp. With a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 3 second, Lamborghini will want the future Urus a serious competitor for the Ferrari FX70 (Ferrari’s replacement for the Enzo)."

Sony Plans to Launch Its Own ITunes Competitor

"Under a heavy crunch from an economy which has seen consumers cut back drastically on the hardware that Sony has concentrated nearly all its attention on, the company is searching for new ways to boost its sagging sales. And a primary answer that it’s come up with is to make a decisive move toward software, developing an online store for selling intangibles like music, movies, books and the gamut of applications that its consumer hard goods demand over the long haul. Basically, a Sony iTunes."
